Helping to sustain Madison's Environment while celebrating our 200th Anniversary!

Let's plant 1,000 Native Trees for our 200th Anniversary

Mission

MAD for Trees was formed to support the planting of at least 200 native trees across Madison CT by May 2026, the 200th anniversary of its incorporation. Having achieved this by April 2023, we have raised our goal to 1000 plants!

By planting these native plants, we hope to:

  • Raise awareness of the Climate Crisis and its impact on Madison.
  • Create a positive civic campaign celebrating our Town's history.
  • Provide collaborative projects for residents, businesses & local organizations to come together to sustainably beautify our town.
  • Encourage a future of environmental stewardship in Madison.

Our Goals

Near Term

Plant 1000 Native Trees & Shrubs in honor of 200 Years

  • Be an integral part of the Town’s Bicentennial
  • Strengthen the P&Z process to better protect trees
  • Support Sustainable CT certification
  • Participate in beautification projects around town

Long Term

Plant 2,000 Native Trees & Shrubs “for eternity”

  • Create a Tree Advisory Commission to support both residents and town bodies.
  • Create a Tree Ordinance that provides guidance on both tree removal & replacement.
  • Qualify Madison as an official member of the Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA program

So far, MAD for Trees has covered Madison with 794 Native Trees & Shrubs

This Google Map shows the broad coverage and diversity of our program. Many of the icons represent multiple trees in one location. So far we have distributed 794 Native Trees & shrubs over the last 3.5 years.
